2. The Text with Padma Karpo's Commentary in English by Tony Duff
Shantideva's text together with a famous commentary to it the highly regarded Tibetan author Padma Karpo • is available, together with full information, here.
3. The Text with Khenpo KunPal's Commentary in English by Andreas Kretschmar
We are pleased to present the fine translation work of Andreas Kretschmar who has many years of experience as a Tibetan translator.  He undertook the major project of making a translation of Shantideva's text and a commentary to it by Khenpo Kunpal [1862–1943], student of Paltrul Rinpoche [1808–1887].  In addition, Andreas has amassed his own commentary to each of these based on explanations received from various, modern-day teachers.  The work is not completed yet.  The remaining sections will be made available here as they are finished.

Andreas takes pleasure in presenting this work to you for free, per our age-old Buddhist tradition.  However, the work is protected by copyrights and there are some restrictions on how it may be used.  Please read the copyright notice before downloading the main files then observe the author's requirements.

This file contains the first chapter of Shantideva's root text together with Khenpo Kunpal's commentary on it, following Paltrül Rinpoche's oral explanation lineage.  The chapter explains the benefits of bodhicitta.  This first volume is prefaced by Andreas Kretschmar's translator's introduction that may be of interest to the academic reader as well as by introductory material from Khenpo Chöga, Tsoknyi Rinpoche, Khenpos Appey, Trashi Palden, Pema Sherab, and Namdröl.
